DIY Adirondack Chairs Using Reclaimed Wood

July 10, 2017 by amy

When the Sundance catalog arrived a while back I tore out a page of a rustic adirondack chair I liked and showed it to Jason. It was a simple design using reclaimed wood with a steep price tag of $600. I knew he would take it as a personal challenge to build a few himself up at the farm for a fraction of the cost.

The inspiration:

He did a little research and got to work sketching out a basic design. I tracked down these fence panels on our local Buy Nothing facebook group combined with existing scrap wood found on the property.

Enough for six chairs!

In process:

Most of the wood is treated so all that is needed is a clear coat sealant. On the untreated parts I may decide to do a muted color wash.
The finished product:

One of my favorite features of the chairs are the fence slats used for the chair backs, reminiscent of the tips of snow skis.

In the end the total cost for each chair came to just $6.33!
