One of my favorite winter activities at the farm is snowshoeing the entire orchard, row by row. I start at the bottom and methodically walk each row until I reach the top by the house. Sometimes I’ll listen to a favorite podcast but oftentimes I’ll just tune in to the stillness and get lost in my thoughts. Each individual sound is amplified by the solitude. The crunch of the snow beneath my foot with each step, my breathing and the faint rush of the Hood River in the distance.
By the time I arrive back at the house any problem I’ve been struggling with has worked itself out or I’ve gained a fresh perspective on a new project.
I love heading out after a fresh dusting and making new tracks on the smooth white canvas. Unless the The Boz beats me to it:
